Cultivate: Reading & Confidence gives children an opportunity to practice reading in a relaxed farm environment alongside Hidden Pastures animals.
The goal is not to grade, test, or pressure.
Instead, children are encouraged to read at their own pace, build positive experiences around reading, and become more comfortable using their voice in a setting that feels different from a classroom.

Reading Without the Pressure
For some children, reading can begin to feel like something they are constantly being evaluated on.
Cultivate offers a different environment.
Children have opportunities to read aloud near animals, practice at their own pace, choose appropriate reading material, and experience reading as something they can do rather than something they are being tested on.
The farm setting provides a change of pace from a classroom or tutoring environment.
This program is designed to support confidence, engagement, and positive reading experiences through practice.
What Happens During Cultivate?
Depending on the session, children may:
- Choose or bring reading material
- Read aloud near a Hidden Pastures animal
- Practice reading in short, manageable periods
- Take breaks when appropriate
- Talk about what they are reading
- Spend time getting comfortable reading aloud
- Participate in simple animal or farm-based transitions between reading activities
- Build familiarity with the program routine over time
The focus is on practice, participation, and confidence rather than speed, scores, or comparison with other readers.
A Different Kind of Reading Environment
Animals do not grade, interrupt, or compare.
For some children, reading in the presence of an animal can make practice feel less formal and less performance-based.
At Hidden Pastures, the animals are not described as therapists or as knowing what a child needs.
They are part of the environment — giving children a different place to practice, participate, and become more comfortable with reading aloud.
A Confidence-Building Reading Experience
Cultivate is not:
- Academic tutoring
- Dyslexia intervention
- Reading therapy
- Special education services
- Psychotherapy or counseling
- A replacement for school-based reading support
It is a farm-based reading experience designed to give children more opportunities to practice, engage, and build positive associations with reading.
If a child needs specialized academic or clinical reading intervention, families should continue working with the appropriate educational or healthcare professionals.

Cultivate gives children time to become familiar with the environment, build a routine, try again, and notice what becomes easier over time.
Progress may look different for every child.
For one reader, it may mean reading for a little longer.
For another, it may mean speaking more clearly, choosing a more challenging book, asking for help, or simply feeling more comfortable opening a book and beginning.
Avoid promising measurable academic gains unless you are specifically measuring and validating them.
