Explore the Farm at Your Own Pace
All Abilities Farm Day is not a structured class.
Guests may move between activities based on comfort, interest, energy level, and sensory needs.
Some people may want to meet animals right away. Others may prefer to observe first, take a break, stay close to a caregiver, or choose only a few activities.
Participation is always flexible. There is no expectation that everyone will experience the farm in the same way.
What Might Your Family Experience?
Activities may include:
Animals
Observe or interact appropriately with farm animals based on comfort and animal wellbeing.
Farm Exploration
Move around the farm, explore outdoor areas, and experience the environment at a flexible pace.
Hands-On Activities
Simple farm activities that can be approached in different ways based on age, comfort, and ability.
Quiet / Pause Spaces
Opportunity to step away from activity and regroup.
Activities may vary based on weather, animal needs, and the season.
There Is More Than One Right Way to Participate
No one is required to touch an animal, complete every activity, or stay in one area for the entire event.
Guests may participate, observe, pause, step away, or return to an activity later.
Observation is a valid form of participation.
Families are encouraged to make choices based on what feels comfortable and manageable for each person.
Animal wellbeing always comes first. Specific animal interactions may change based on health, comfort, weather, and farm needs.
Who Is Welcome?
All Abilities Farm Day welcomes children and adults with a wide range of disabilities, sensory differences, developmental differences, and support needs, including but not limited to:
- ✓Autism
- ✓Down syndrome
- ✓Intellectual or developmental disabilities
- ✓Physical disabilities
- ✓Sensory processing differences
- ✓Communication differences
- ✓Other support needs
A formal diagnosis is not required.
This is designed as a shared family experience. Siblings, caregivers, and family members are welcome to participate rather than simply wait while one person takes part.
Support Needs
Hidden Pastures welcomes participants with a range of support needs, but this event is not staffed as a one-on-one support program.
Participants who require close supervision, physical assistance, behavioral support, communication support, or personal care should attend with the caregiver or support person who normally provides that assistance.
Caregivers remain responsible for the participant throughout the event. Hidden Pastures staff facilitate the farm experience but do not provide one-on-one caregiving or clinical support.
Come Ready for the Farm
Hidden Pastures is a working outdoor farm.
Guests should expect:
- •Animals
- •Uneven ground
- •Natural sounds
- •Farm smells
- •Dirt and mud
- •Outdoor weather
- •Changing farm conditions
Please wear closed-toe shoes and weather-appropriate clothing, and bring water and any personal sensory or support items the participant normally uses.
Families are welcome to contact Hidden Pastures before attending if they would like more information about what to expect that day.
A Community Farm Experience
Not psychotherapy, counseling, medical treatment, or a diagnosis-based intervention.
The focus is on flexible participation, animals, nature, choice, connection, and enjoying the farm together.
Need-Based Assistance
Need-based assistance may be available through the Hidden Pastures Access Fund based on available funding.
Come Experience the Farm Your Way
Families do not need to move at the same pace, participate in every activity, or experience the farm in the same way.
