Farm-Based Learning FAQ

Is farm-based learning therapy?

No. Farm-based learning is not therapy, counseling, or clinical treatment. It is an experiential approach that supports learning and connection through animals, land, and real-world activities.

Do participants need experience with animals or farms?

No prior farm or animal experience is required. All activities are guided and appropriate to age, ability, and comfort level.

Is this appropriate for neurodivergent individuals?

Yes. Farm-based learning often works well for neurodivergent individuals because it is hands-on, structured, and grounded in movement and routine rather than sitting still or talking extensively.

Does farm-based learning involve riding horses?

Some programs include riding, such as Western Riding Lessons. Many programs are ground-based and focus on animal care, farm tasks, and participation without riding.

Is farm-based learning only for kids?

No. Hidden Pastures offers farm-based learning experiences for children, teens, veterans, and community members through different programs and formats.

How is safety handled?

Hidden Pastures is a working farm with clear structure, supervision, and expectations. Safety for people and animals is always a priority.

How do I know which program is a good fit?
