Western Riding Lessons

Calm, Skill-Based Riding Instruction

Led by Katie

Western riding lessons at Hidden Pastures focus on learning to ride well, with a strong foundation in horsemanship, safety, and horse care.

Lessons are designed for beginner and intermediate riders and are intentionally paced to build confidence, skill, and understanding — without competition or pressure to advance quickly.

This is not a high-pressure riding program.
It’s thoughtful, steady instruction rooted in respect for the horse and the rider.

What Lessons Are Like

Lessons focus on riding first, supported by horsemanship and care that help riders become confident, capable, and safe.

Lessons may include:

  • grooming, tacking, and basic horse care
  • understanding horse behavior and communication
  • riding skills for beginner and intermediate riders
  • balance, position, and control at the rider’s pace
  • safety and awareness on and off the horse

Riders spend time in the saddle each lesson. Groundwork supports safe, effective riding rather than replacing it.

Progress is skill-based and steady, without competition or pressure.

Who Lessons Are For

Western riding lessons are a good fit for kids and teens who:

  • want to learn to ride or build on existing skills
  • benefit from calm, predictable instruction
  • are beginner or intermediate riders
  • feel overwhelmed in fast-paced or competitive barns
  • value learning through relationship and consistency

No prior riding experience is required for beginner riders.

Katie’s Approach

Lessons are led by Katie, whose teaching style is calm, attentive, and grounded in respect for both rider and horse.

She meets riders where they are and adapts lessons tto support safety, confidence, and steady progress. Riders are encouraged to learn at their own pace while developing real riding skills.

How Riding Fits with Other Programs

Western riding lessons are one way kids and teens can connect with horses at Hidden Pastures.

Some riders:

  • begin with Farm Club or camps before riding
  • ride seasonally
  • combine lessons with other farm programs

There is no required path or progression.

Scheduling & Inquiries

Riding lessons are offered seasonally and scheduled based on:

  • horse readiness
  • rider age and experience
  • Katie’s availability

Lessons begin with a short inquiry to ensure a good fit before scheduling.

Is This a Good Fit?

Riding lessons work best for riders who can:

  • follow basic safety instructions
  • participate calmly in a structured setting
  • learn in a small-group or individual format

If you’re unsure whether riding lessons are the right fit, we’re happy to help you think it through.
